Deborah Poh:
2 years ago, I was really shy. I didn't like to speak in public. I was not motivated to memorize speeches or to do them well. My mother brought me to the ICC conference, I was upset, as I didn't want to step out of my comfort zone. But, I had an interesting surprise. Everyone at the conference was really fired up about public speaking. I soon caught on. Needless to say, like most people under immense peer pressure, I caved in. Soon, I was speaking with an accent (which I picked up from the instructors) and being enthusiastic about giving speeches. It did not last for long, though. A few months after I joined a chapter, the full realization of what I had signed up for started to sink in.What had seemed so fun months ago was now a bore. However, there was nothing I could do about it. I dragged my feet through YSG 1, rushed through the whole curriculum in 2 weeks, just to qualify for the upcoming tournament. Happy, but tired, from this whole adventure, I looked back and saw how much I had learned.
Needless to say, now that is over, I feel like I might just have to go through that all over again. Just that this time, with YSG 2, for the March conference is just around the corner. Take heart, brothers and sisters, and look forward to the days after we get guilded. Till then, goodbye and hope to see you at the conference 2016.
